Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Volunteer Medical Corps is a team of volunteer healthcare professionals who donate 2-3 hours of time a month to provide virtual consultations to clinicians in remote and low-resource settings across the globe using asynchronous telemedicine technology.

  • If you're a certified medical or allied health professional with a passion for teaching and volunteering, join our VMC, which includes MDs, NPs, PAs, Physical Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Optometrists, Registered Dietitians, and more. We currently don't onboard medical students or Resident physicians, but for inquiries on their involvement, email Meghan at mmoretti@addisclinic.org.

  • There's a global shortage of health workers, with 83 countries falling below the basic threshold of 23 health workers per 10,000 people. By 2030, we'll be short by 15 million health workers. The Addis Clinic collaborates with healthcare providers in underserved areas, acknowledging the prevalent practice of task shifting — delegating medical duties to less-trained professionals to address shortages. While this approach broadens essential health services, it demands thorough training and supervision. We aim to support these professionals by offering no-cost teleconsultation services through our Volunteer Medical Corps.

  • Our volunteers, all busy medical professionals, offer consultations at their convenience. Depending on your specialty, expect 1-3 text-based, asynchronous consultation requests monthly, accessible on any device via our web platform.
